Store Operations - POS crashes before login - Corrupted .dll file?

Posted on by 60

An IT tech was called in to remove malware, run antivirus, and generally attempt to speed up the PCs that run the register software. The system consists of one server and three clients. After he completed his work we proceeded to start the POS software and continue work. One of the client machines refuses to allow SO to start and stops before the login screen appears with an error stating that the pdatall.dll file cannot be found.

Through SO Administrator I have successfully connected to and successfully tested the connection to the SQL Server backend. After running a few more checks it appears this error is confined to this machine as all of the other SO installations function correctly. I have attempted to repair the installation via Add/Remove programs and by using the installation disk but the issue remains. I have also tried using a replacement .dll file as well as registering the .dll again but to no avail. I am the registered partner and have consulted with MS support but they have been unable to offer a solution.

Aside from a complete reinstall, is this an issue that someone has encountered before and can it be resolved?

The .dll file appears to be related to the Epson receipt printer but all attempts to reinstall the appropriate drivers have failed to correct the issue. As a last attempt to avoid increasing the costs for our customer we've reinstalled SO three times and running all hotfixes/updates available but to no avail. The .dll issue remains; we will be installing a new box with the SO installation.

We believe that Ramy's suggestion is most likely to be the culprit but since reinstalling all of the affected programs has resulted in an unusable system we've opted to replace the machine. Microsoft has been involved while this has unfolded but has, as we have experienced in the past, not been able to affect much in the way of customer satisfaction.

Because there are "other" Microsoft products being updated on your system, in theory your operating system would be getting updated at the same time as they are designed to work together. As you used the term Add and Remove, my speculation would be that your presently using a non supported operating system. Your certainly welcome to continue using it, as long as you have a clear understanding of the risks to your customers business and any and all associated data they have.   I am also somewhat confident MS support would be able to offer you a recommendation rather quickly. I don't imagine the term re-install or re-image would be part of that conversation as the stability, security and performance you are looking for currently exist in modern hardware and supported operating systems.

Some male ware programmes deleted some of rms components it considers it as mal ware so it is recommended to reinstall RMS components and deactivate this mal ware application. Also it can remove some windows components if some of its components infected by malware and in this case you must repair your windows
