Manufacturing and lot tracking components

All our components on our BOMs have been converted to being lot tracked... when using the Manufacturing Component Transaction Entry window and selecting "Mark all" to issue... it processes it then errors out with

"one or more records were not selected. You must individually select those items."

Is this because all components are lot tracked?? Items are set to FIFO...so wouldn't it automaticall select the first lots and issue them out? Or do we have to manually select 1000s of components to issue?

??

    Hi,

In manufacturing module, the FIFO and LIFO selection method is used only when click the "Auto-Select "  button in the component Lot/Serial number selection window.Actually, Manufacturing module will not automatically assign serial/ Lot number for the components.

    Thanks

    Tami,

The news is not good.  Reading from "Help":

"To choose all items, choose Mark All. If a line can’t be marked—perhaps because the available quantity for the item isn’t great enough to cover the requirement or because the item is tracked by lot or serial numbers—a message appears. You can choose to mark those items individually, and handle the exceptions one at a time. "

Sorry.  It's true.  Same problem here.

I sense frustration.  Didn't you just finish "flipping" on Lot Control for a large number of items (at the behest of Regulatory/QA/Non-IT, no doubt)?  I feel your pain.

On an average BOM for your place what's the component count and percentage lot controlled?

FIFP means first in first out and this is based on receipt date.  However, if 3 different lots are received on the same day, which one was consumed (assuming that not all were consumed)?  YOU must assign lots.  Sorry but accurate lot tracking cannot depend on a system to pick one lot when staff can pick another.

Yes due to regulatory requirements all items are now lot tracked....each BOM has 350 to 750 componnets

Holy Cow!  I've actually had one of your products in my hands and I would have never suspected that kind of component count at the "top" (finished goods) level.  I thought you folks would be bigger users of sub-assemblies.  I had some thoughts about how I might address this - but this kind of component count...hmmm.

Staff can still pick a different lot....whether it is autoassigned or not.

We have several sub assemblies \ phantom boms for the FG

Tim...I am interested in any suggestions\thoughts you may have.

We have to track components at all levels of the assembly ...so we decided to track everything. Our current system uses first in first out and adds the lots to be used to the pick document so the person that is picking knows what lots go to which workcentre
