Cloud POS not working on local VHD release 10.0.17 hangs on "Authenticating user..." step

We have configured the new local VHD release 10.0.17 and ran the AdminProvisionTool as well as the RetailTenantUpdateTool with the same user, but when I go to internet explorer and activate the cloud POS it hangs on "Authenticating user..."

Note that on Internet Explorer it says the web browser is not supported but I can ignore this message and go on and when I check the retail server it gives the message "Succeeded".

On other explorers like Chrome or Edge it gives "Failed" on retail server check and I can't even reach the Authenticating user step.

Any help, please..

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Ammar,

You can't connect to a local VM from a cloud POS. Potentially, if you are running the cloud POS on the same VHD, you can try to redirect network traffic, but not sure if this will solve your challenge. I don't have knowledge on redirecting network traffic.

To get more details about why it is not connecting, you can use a web debugging tool like Fiddler.

Andre, i dont mean the cloud as a real cloud. Im just going to this URL inside the local VHD

    usnconeboxax1pos.cloud.onebox.dynamics.com/

    Hi Ammar,

I would suggest to check the network traffic if it tries to find the URL on the internet or that it will be redirected internally. Like mentioned, you can use Fiddler to check this.

And it hangs on Authenticating user (after giving the message the browser is not supported)

Using Chrome or Edge, as shown

    Hi Ammar,

For Internet Explorer, you will want to look at the Event logs to see what is going on.

For Chrome/Edge, this is by design/limitation of current VHD. The reason being is that10.0.17 ships with a SSL certificate that doesn’t have SAN properties specified on it. Because of this, Chrome/Edge don’t trust the SSL Certificate. The only way to ‘fix’ this is to issue a new SSL certificate; and the next major VHD image that will release this fall should have a new SSL cert and Edge installed OOB.

i've imported a new certificate and restarted the machine, now its working on Edge

to import the new certificate from here download

    Microsoft response:

Yes, creating your own SSL Certificate for CPOS Edge/Chrome will accept it and solved the issue.

The VHD image uses a self-signed certificate which does not have SAN properties on it. Because of this Edge/Chromium won't trust it as it doesn't confirm to their SSL validation/security rules. Micorosoft don't include these browsers in the VHD, that may change in the next VHD image release this fall. As of 10.0.17 https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/commerce/get-started/system-requirements#supported-web-browsers-for-cloud-pos I.E. is no longer supported,

since I.E. is the only browser on that VHD that actually trusts the certificate its really the only one you can use.

The solution for now, can be create your own certificate (what you did) or deploy a cloud hosted machine from LCS to use the CPOS, and in VHD run only MPOS.
