Workflows paying not nice with Quick Create

I am having a terrible time with a workflow that is supposed to run in RT on record create when it's created with a Quick Create form.  I have confirmed it works properly if I turn Quick Create off.  I have also tried changing it to asynch, but no luck.

Can someone give me the rules for how workflows and Quick Create play together?   I need to set the "Name" value of field on create.

Thanks!

I am not aware of any difference between a record created in quick create, full form, data import or SDK. The create event should still trigger a workflow in exactly the same way.

What actually happens when you create a record with quick create? Anything? Nothing? Does the workflow even fire?

Well, there is a fundamental difference in that Quick Create forms can't hold calculated fields.  When I create click the Save button on the Quick Create form I get the error: "An error has occurred. Please return to the home page and try again."  After closing the error processing continues.

I collect three currency values on the form which are used in calculated fields, which can't be displayed on the QuickCreate form. I didn't think this was necessarily bad since the results appear in the subgrid view on the parent record.  I'm wondering, though, if this is the root cause of the problem, because if I turn QuickCreate off everything works perfectly.

On create workflows run when database operation has completed. So I am not sure about the issue you are facing. Otherwise, did you try to use business rule to generate the name?

Hi Debra. I'm seeing the same error message on a custom entity using CRM Online. I originally had a workflow and thought perhaps it was the issue. I have since removed it and implemented that functionality in a plugin. Unfortunately, I still get the error message when using the quick create form, even after deleting the workflow from the instance. I do not have any errors on the normal form. This leads me to think that the issue is with the quick create form itself in the current release.  I have not seen anyone else reporting the issue though. Hopefully this thread will attract some attention if others are seeing it and it is indeed a bug.

I'm finding the same functionality.  The Workflow fires when I create a new record from another form but not when I create the record on via Quick Create.  Its interesting to me that Form Editor for the Quick Create doesn't show Business Rules.  Sounds like quick create doesn't fire workflows.

    Hello,

did you find a solution to your problem?

I am facing something much similar. I have created a plugin which updates a registration entity (custom entity). On the form of the registration I have grid to a payment entity (again a custom entity). The idea is to create a payment and when the payment is created it must update the registration. When I create a payment from a quick create form opened from the grid I receive an error but my plugin still do what it's supposed to do. But when I open the quick create form not from the grid but from the main menu (I don't know how to call the blue line on the top) I don't receive an error and the plugin still do what it should do.

I have no idea why is this happening so if someone could give me an idea how to prevent it it would help me a lot.

    Regards,

    Neda Andreeva.

RE: Workflows paying not nice with Quick Create

Hello, I experience the same issue with Quick Create forms. In last couple of days I configured 7 quick create forms and out of 7 forms only 5 are working. Other two forms show the message: "An error has occurred. Please return to the home page and try again".

    I tried multiple configurations:

    1. created several brand new forms,
    2. tried adding all fields on the quick create form,
    3. tried disabling workflows,
    4. tried making all fields visible and editable on the form
    5. verified the issue is persistent on different computers.....

What is interesting about the issue is that the forms are working as expected in Google Chrome and the issue is happening in IE only. I could not figure our why these two forms are not working and what IE settings may affect the behaviour of 2 forms our of 7. If anyone knows an answer or was able to resolve the issue, please share your thoughts! Thank you!

Just adding that we're facing the same issue, though apparently with just one of our users using IE. Seems to only affect one form.
