Unhandled Script Exception-Illegal Address for field line

ErrorMsg.jpg

Good morning to the Community,

Yesterday a user received this error message whilst entering an order, when 'ok' was clicked the document went through, picking ticket printed in the warehouse without any issues.

GP is accessed via a Terminal Server, and she was the only user experiencing any issues.

Sorry I could not get this any clearer, she is working ok this morning, a check links was done yesterday but it did not refer to any specific document number.

What exactly does this message mean?

Thanks

    Hi Rosemary,

This is odd if you are saying that she is using the same workstation code as everyone else, but she was the only one getting the error. Also, that the error stopped. With these errors, the transaction often appears to complete, but that does not guarantee all of the business logic was followed. The 'Unhandled Script Exception' is the default message used if the exception that was thrown is not one that the programmer wrote a check for. There are several errors that are commonly checked, but this is not one of those errors, so you're getting a generic response dialog.

David Musgrave wrote a pretty good post about these kinds of errors and it's worth a read if you're curious.

    Hi Rosemary!

Do you know if there are any third party products installed within Dynamics GP? Most of the time when I see an illegal address error such as above it is caused by a third party.

If there ay third parties I recommend removing all third parties from the Dynamics.SET file following the KB article below.

I do recommend creating a backup of the Dynamics.SET file before modifying it at all.

872087 Steps to disable third-party products or temporarily disable additional products in the Dynamics.set file in Microsoft Dynamics GP

Please let me know if this helps!

    -Just a thought...

This can occur when the user does not have security to a modified form as described by previous replies. The puzzle is that it was a transient error. Could someone have been changing the user security, rolling out changes as the the user was on the system. That could explain temporarily not having permissions, it has been set correctly again now, hence why it is OK again now?

    Hi Leslie,

Thanks for your response, I read the document, the user has not had any issues since so I did not make any changes.

I checked my error message file and I saw something similar, we have a 3rd party POS and   when I gave the user access to the tables the message stopped. And yes we do have modifications to SOP.

Thanks again for that bit of information.

    Hi Thomas,

Yes, we have a POS application, and as I mentioned to Leslie when I gave the user access to the tables the message stopped. I will remove access to the tables and try removing the entries mentioned and see what happens.

    Thanks for your response.

Tim, as I mentioned to Leslie we do have modified forms and yes the user did have access to them. She has been billing for a couple of months. That is what I find equally strange about these messages, shouldn't it have surfaced earlier?

Anyway I have all the documents suggested should it come up again.

    Thanks for your suggestions.
