We pay some vendors via a credit card - one payment for multiple invoices. We would like to create a remittance advice and a dummy "payment" to present to the vendor with a request to charge our card. Right now our payment type of Check makes the remittance advice look contradictory since it say "check" in the payment type area. I want it to say "credit card."

I might be speaking out of turn here because I have not brought the report up in report writer, but I often use this technique when I want to change a label based on certain criteria. Consider this: Create a calculated field that looks at some key in the table - you'll need to decide what triggers the alternate word - and then change the payment type to the word of your choice if that field is of a certain value. I do this all of the time on Purchase Orders. For example, if it's a drop ship, I have "Drop Ship Purchase Order" in some incredibly large font emblazoned across the top of the document.
As far as your question on actually creating a new payment type, I do not know of a way to do that 'out-of-the-box'.
