CRM Online 2011 to Web Portal Integration

I am investigating the 'best practice' way to connect CRM online to a web portal.

Currently i'm finding the CRM web service to be slow (15-20 seconds to using RetrieveMultiple) and just wondering what the best way to connect to CRM online is.

For CRM On premise I have connected to the views using my own web service however with CRM online this is obviously not possible.

Does anyone have CRM online 2011 connected to a web portal? If so how did they increase performance of the CRM web service?

If you want to integrate custom web application then there are only two ways for integration with CRM 2011:

1)- By Creating Silverlight applications

2)- By Creating HTML pages with JScript/jQuery/Json

http://crmportalconnector.com/ Take a look at this solution, it might be worth to try instead of build everything from scratch. You can create full integrated portal with CRM in couple hours.
