How to Stop Reservations

Hi!

Each Item is set to not be reserved, yet when Order Promising is accepted, the Sales Order will have some items reserved.

How do I stop this from happening? All Finished Goods are set as Build to Stock, if that matters.

Even items in BOM's for Finished Goods on assembly orders get reserved. It's quite the nuisance when some FG's have 300 parts.

I appreciate your help.

Thank you,

Lisa

    Hi

Just want to make sure I understood you correctly. Do you mean in SO you go to Action->Plan->Order Promising and after accepting the date here it reserve the item? Is my assumption correct?

Do you use Available to Promise or Capable to Promise? if you use capable to promise then this is a BC behavior to make sure to reserve that item for that SO.  if you use Available to Promise then can you please share screenshot of reservation and reservation page for one item in SO?

    Thanks

    Hello there,

I am using Capable to Promise. Should I be using Available to Promise?

Will Available to Promise still create lines on the Planning Worksheet?

    Thank you again,

    Lisa

    Hi

Please see this article for more info https://archerpoint.com/how-to-set-up-and-use-order-promising-in-microsoft-dynamics-nav-or-dynamics-365-business-central/

Short answer is no. Available to promise will not create line in planning worksheet. It is a function of Capable to Promise. But as soon as Capable to promise creates line in planning worksheet it reserve those items for this order. Hence, you will see the reservation. I am not aware of any between method that create planning worksheet but does not reserve the item.

The Planning Worksheet has its own calculation process to determine what is available and what is needing replenishment.  You can better control the results (and reservations) using the Planning Worksheet's "Calc. Regenerative Plan".

There is a great deal of flexibility with the MPS/MRP setup on an Item (which is what the Planning Worksheet uses), so you'll probably want to get some guidance from your partner to better understand your options.
