Inventory journal workflow

Been working with a colleague on this and can get it to work, but i appears this cannot be controlled by value. E.g. on the counting journal if we count on or off say £100 of stock we want it to ONLY go for approval then...abit like cycle counting would. But all that seems to happen is ALL journals have to go through workflow whether they are £1 or £10000.

Anyone confirm if this is an option, or is it just a case of all have to go through the appoval process?

I have the same question (0)

    Hy tl82,

as I know you are right as you have no summarized values at journal header.

What you can do before send the journal into worklow to enter a sensitive "journal description" e.g. "large inventory adjustment"  to the journal header in the case your amount exceeds the volume. Then you can create a condition inside the workflow to autoapprove if not "large inventory adjustment" otherwise it has to be approved by anyone.

So you could decide what has to be approved.

An other option would be to go through a Power Automate to summarize your journal values and decide then to go to a Workflow.

    Hi tl82,

Like mentioned by Andreas, this is not available out of the box. Do you need the value per line or as a journal total? Anyway, you can go for an extension to add a calculated field on the workflow document class for the counting difference. If this is below a certain value, go for an auto approval; otherwise, the workflow should be assigned to user(s) for approval.

    Both.

it is the value per line. So what i understand from this is this isnt possible.

What is an extension, in layman terms? Or is there somewhere i can see a video or screenshots of this? As this is starting to sound like something beyond a simple Operations Manager (Me), with this forum and youtube the basis of how i am setting up D365 for warehousing :)

    Hy tl82,

you understand right, it does not work out of the box to control the routing of an inventory approval workflow based on a summarized value of all journal lines.

If you need this absolutly a D365FO Developer could develop this in an development environment, this is called an extension. Before development the functional requirement has to described from an consultant in this way that the deveoper understand what exactly has to be coded. After coding this software the package has to be deployed to your test-environemnt, tested by your key users, accepted that is works as expected and then the package has to be deployed to your production envirionbment.

The decision to develop a Customization is an managerial decision and should be discussed internal and also with your supporting partner.
