Taking a contract off of 'hold' status and finding those on hold

When you place a contract on hold, a bill is not created and no revenue is recognized. Once a contract is taken off hold, does the system then ‘catch up’ the billing or does it skip the months the contract was on hold and resume normally? And is there a way to track contracts that have been placed on hold?
