I only recently noticed this feature in GP. The documentation has steps as to how to set this up.
What is its purpose? What does it do other than provide additional groupings for reporting?
Would like to understand its value and how it impacts our everyday use of GP.

Most useful link is for account level security. If you want users in one department to only code to that individual department and not to another one.
You set up the levels, then assign the parts of the account structure to the levels and then assign users to the levels.
Quite handy if wanting to restrict access at a more granular level.

The SystemSetup.pdf (Chapter 31) has information on how to setup and use Organizational Structure that would be useful for you to review. Organizational Structure is used to assign accounts, users, and user classes to different parts of the organizational structure.
