Automate File Import to GP

Hi,

I was wondering if there was a solution to automate a data transfer into Item Maintenance details (Dynamics GP), that would not have to be manually run daily.

The software we need data imported from is AssurX

-What file type would it have to be?

-What programs or methods would be used?

-Could a sql job create a trigger to input the information?

Thanks everyone for your help! much appreciated

You can use Integration Managers's econnect Invetory Item destination and run IM as a scheduled task. The econnect destinations in IM do not need to have anyone logged in to GP to run and can run in the background.

There are all sorts of ways to automate data imports. You can use scheduled jobs in SQL, you can write a dexterity integration, or more commonly, you can use a tool such as SmartConnect or Scribe.

There are also many different options for how your source data is formatted and stored.

I recommend you talk with your partner about the options that are best for you. The short answer is that it can probably be done just about any way you want it to be done, using just about any source file you can come up with!

You could purchase the Customization Suite for GP which includes Integration Manager. You then use Windows Task Manager to run the integration automatically. The import file could be a csv, txt, xls, xml or any ODBC compatible database.  You could also write your own integration using a host of tools.
