D365BC Telemetry PageView User_ID Field Blank

Hello,

I am having an issue where after enabling telemetry in a BC environment, the pageviews telemetry event type is not capturing the user_id field. However I can see this user_id field correctly populating on the traces event type.

Microsoft support agent is saying that only 'certain' events include the user_id field. Is that really true?

Background Info:

- Happening in both Sandbox / Prod environments

- All users have been assigned a 'Telemetry ID'

- Have tried regenerating the Telemetry ID for each user

- Also have tried disabling / re-enabling the entire telemetry functionality within admin center

- This functionality was working as expected all the way until the middle of Nov 2025 as I can see user_id values getting populated until then. After that point, the user_id field is now blank for all pageview events.

Has anyone ran into this and found a solution? If not, what are the possible workarounds to include the user_id with the pageviews? Otherwise this functionality provides little value.

    Hello ,

Yes, this is real and you’re not misconfigured: user_Id is no longer reliably populated for pageViews in Business Central telemetry, even if Telemetry ID is set for all users; it still appears in traces because those are server-side events, while pageViews are browser-side, and since a platform change around mid-Nov 2025, Microsoft stopped consistently attaching user context to them (by design / regression, poorly documented). There’s no tenant-side fix to force it back, and regenerating Telemetry IDs or re-enabling telemetry won’t help. The only practical workaround is to log your own user identifier into customDimensions via AL telemetry or join pageViews with traces using session_Id or operation_Id. Bottom line: don’t rely on pageViews.user_Id anymore if you need per-user analytics.

Thanks for confirming Oussama, I was actually able to narrow this down to some upgrade between 26.0.41105 -> 27.0.41799.

I also found the potential workaround you mentioned joining traces and pageviews together.

But because of the how 'protected' the Telemetry ID is (I could not find a way to programmatically pull this from the User Property table. I ended up writing my own custom telemetry to grab the user ID during the login to associate it with the session.

It seems MSFT is going out of its way to make this process harder for some reason and actually degrading the usefulness of the telemetry pageviews feature.

Just to round this out for those that find this in the future, as of Jan 2026 Microsoft has confirmed this is an issue and created a bug ticket to fix it.
