Data entry option - currency amount as whole dollars as default

Hi

I have one that I don't even know how to word correctly to search, so will try here with a more detailed explanation.

My client wants to be able to enter currency amounts in GP where it defaults to whole dollars first unless the decimal place is hit.  E.g. to enter $100, they want to type 100 rather than 100. or 10000.

Basically they want it the same as e.g. Excel - when you put a number in the field, it assumes a whole dollar unless you put a decimal in.

Does anyone know if there is a tool or add-in that enables this?

Cheers

Heather

    Hi Heather,

that sounds like a customization project :-)... By default GP will behave based on the definition of the number of decimals requested for a field.. so unless that field is whole number (no decimals), you're probably not going to get around hitting the "." to close the number entry, and even with no decimals defined, (i.e. for Inventory numbers) I'm not sure you can avoid the "." to separate the left from the right portion.

My feeling is that the entry field is formatted to behave like that. If you open the form in Modifier and check its properties, you may be able to change it to "no-decimals". Don't forget to adjust the security after that for Modified/Customized forms & reports  security.

    Thanks Beat

I think it probably will end up customisation - I just hate recreating the wheel.  So if someone already had a little tool that enabled this, that would be great.

    Hi Heather

You will not be able to change behaviour while it stays as a single field.

This is Dexterity's default behaviour. If you want it changed you will need to log a product suggestion on MS Connect.

One option for a customisation would be to split the value into two fields for dollars and cents. So then you will need to press tab to enter cents.

Thanks for the feedback David.  It is good to know options - and this one looks like the too hard basket.  It is only a single client that finds it an issue, so not something I will end up putting as a product suggestion.

    Cheers
