Is running Microsoft RMS main database on a server supported and/or recommended?  Are there any issues or problems associated with this type of setup?

if this is an on premise server then it is definitely supported.  If this is a offsite or hosted server then it is not officially supported but could Technically be done but would have slowdowns, PCI compliance problems, and you would be at the mercy of your internet connection.  So unless you have a frame relay or direct lease line to your hosted server I don't suggest this setup.

There is some talk about Microsoft setting up hosting for RMS within their datacenter but definitely wont be out this year.

Umm, I'm pretty sure that MS does NOT support a VM installation although it does work.

We run it in-house as well as we have a few customers doing it.

If you contact MS Support, don't mention that its in a VM
