pstl import file format

I need to make change to item descriptions of about 200 items. I am trying to use PSTL tool. I have created an excel file which has these columns. Item number, old description and new description. Then i save it as a text file. However, PSTL is reading item number and description as one line and thus giving error. I have tried saving it as a CSV file but getting no where.

Any ideas what could be wrong ?

    Hello zeesh1pk

I have just tested the functionality without any issues. If you are finding difficulties using the PSTL, simply create a macro with two steps to enter the item number then update the item description field.

    Your feedback is highly appreciated,

I am not sure how to create a Macro in Dynamics. I have created them in Excel though.

    Hi,
You do not need the 'old description'. You only need the item number and the new description.
    Kind regards,
    Leslie

Oops ..  such a sharp observation Ms. Leslie

I didn't notice that he was including the old description as well !!  Sometimes reading fast through the lines drops some important facts.

Here is the error I am receiving even I do not include the current item description

Starting Item Number(s):  Ending Item Description(s):                        Error Description:

     -----------------------   ---------------------------                        ------------------

5012096,BN ADJ ORD 3/8IN                                                      Source Item not found.

For some reason, it is reading both the item number and description together and thus the error.

It looks like you have a CSV file but it should be a tab delimited file.

You should have 2 columns, tab delimited with no column headers.

I only three CSV options in Excel. CSV (Comma delimited), CSV (Macintosh) and CSV (MS-DOS). Is there a way of saving into CSV tab delimited ?

In Excel when you go to save it you're going to choose "Text (Tab delimited) (*.txt)"

Dynamics does not read anything when I save it in this format.
