Reporting Tool Setup Issues

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I have been trying to set up SSRS to work with GP. I have the directories set up in SSRS like: <Company Name>/Financial/<report>.

I have the Report Server URL as: http://<ServerName>:<port>/ReportServer/ReportService.asmx.

I have the Report Manager URL as: http://<ServerName>:<port>/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx.

However, I get the error:  The Report Server URL entered is not valid.

Now if I go to the Report Server URL in a browser I get the text: The Reporting Services Web Service enables you to manage a report server and its contents including server settings, security, reports, subscriptions, and data sources. The Reporting Services Web Service enables you to manage a report server and its contents including server settings, security, reports, subscriptions, and data sources.

If I look at the source there is the XML data you would expect from an ASMX page. Also to note is that I create a dummy windows app and added the Web Reference using the Report Server URL above and I have no issues there. Only GP seems to be having the issue with it. I am using GP 10 with SQL 2008 R2.

I really need to get this going as I cannot keep running these reports for our accounting dept. Thanks.

    Hello Kishan,

On Dynamics GP 10.0, if you go to the Reporting Tools Setup window, logged on as SA, you should be able to simply change the old server name to the new server name.

If you've previously deployed Excel Reports, I would make sure to remove any existing Excel Reports and ODC files or else create a different shared folder to deploy them into.

Make sure the account that you're deploying reports as, has permissions/access to the shared directory.

    Thanks

    Hi guys,

I am having a strange error where I did a upgrade from GP 9 to GP 10 but when i deploy the reporting tools to create the ODC to connect to the excel file it is coming up with the OLD SERVER name. Is there anyway i can deploy the reports ODC with the NEW SERVER name??

    Hello Stanley,

You state that you are on build 10.0.1061 and SQL 2008 R2.  I should let you know that SQL 2008 R2 is not supported with GP 10.0 until you're on Service Pack 5, which is 10.0.1579. This could prevent the SSRS reports from displaying.

Other than that I can't think of any reason why the URL has not worked.  You could try to blank out the Report Manager URL field, as that is no necessary for this.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

    Re: Reporting Tool Setup Issues

Hello Ian. I have followed the docs just as you have put in your post and when we were on SSRS 2005 I did not have a problem. However, now that we have moved to 2008, I cannot get GP to connect to the SSRS. I am wondering if perhaps there is some other setting that I am not aware of either in GP or SSRS that needs to be set to something. The docs are pretty straight forward on this and it should work, but it is not working. I have been looking into SSRS settings, but cannot find anything that would stop the from working and I have a windows app that I built where I can make a Web Reference to all three of the URLs Rob posted.

Any other suggestions or possible fixes?

    Re: Reporting Tool Setup Issues

Hi Stanley - have you followed the settings detailed in the system set up guide?

    You can't deviate from these.

    As below:

On the SQL Reporting Services tab, enter the location to the SQL Server Reporting Services Report Server.

    http://IISServername/reports/Pages/Folder.aspx

    —or—

    Reporting Services 2005 example:

    http://localhost/ReportServer/ReportService.asmx

Reporting Services 2008 Native mode example:

    http://localhost/ReportServer/ReportService2005.asmx

Reporting Services 2008 SharePoint Integrated mode example:

    http://localhost/ReportServer/ReportService2006.asmx

You do not need to specify a number in the location if you are using Reporting

Services 2005. You must include 2005 in the location if you are using Reporting

    Services 2008.

Enter the URL for the SQL Server Reporting Services Report Manager.

    For example: http://localhost/ReportServer/ReportService.aspx

    —or—

    http://IISServername/reports/Pages/Folder.aspx

    Re: Reporting Tool Setup Issues

    Rob,

Thanks for your reply. We are using GP 10.00.1061. In GP 10 Under Administration >> Setup >> Reporting Tool Setup you can set up the SSRS so that under "Other Reports" it should show any deployed reports. All of the reports are built in Visual Studio and deployed from there. We are not using SharePoint for anything.

http://<ServerName>:<port>/ReportServer/ReportService2005.asmx  Gets me as i stated in my post, text with xml scheme when looking at the page source.

http://<ServerName>:<port>/ReportServer/ReportService2006.asmx Gets me the same as the 2005 one.

http://<ServerName>:<port>/ReportServer/ReportService2010.asmx Gets me the same as the 2005 one.

This is in the browser of course. In GP I get the same error message, "The Report Server URL entered is not valid.", for each URL listed.

    Stanley,

Could you help me better understand what you're trying to accomplish?  What version of GP 10.0 are you on (specifically), and where are you trying to put SRS reports in GP?.  GP 2010 gives you the ability to put reports on users' home pages, but GP 10.0 does not.  How have you deployed your reports?  Native or SharePoint Integrated?  As a quick test, you could try the following url's as well.

    http://<ServerName>:<port>/ReportServer/ReportService2005.asmx (Native)

    http://<ServerName>:<port>/ReportServer/ReportService2006.asmx (SharePoint Integrated)

    http://<ServerName>:<port>/ReportServer/ReportService2010.asmx (This should cover both.)

    Thanks

    Rob
