Storage Space Increasing Rapidly - Possible reasons?

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by

Hello,

Recently, our CRM storage space has been increasing rapidly (it went up by over 3% in just 8 hours, for example) - prior to a couple of days ago this was not happening. We've checked the usual causes (audit logs, email attachments, note attachments, undeleted system jobs, undeleted trace logs, etc.) and all are clear. In fact, we regularly monitor these things in order to keep our storage down.

We also have not added large numbers of new contacts, emails, or other information to the system. Aside from the usual items above, are there any other areas that we can check to see how this storage space is being used?

Thanks!

Bryan

    Hi Bryan,

I presume you are using CRM Online, one thing you can do is create a ticket with Microsoft via the Office 365 Admin portal and request a Top 10 tables Storage report, they'll be able to run a report to show which tables are taking up the most space.

The AsyncOperationBase table can sometimes get quite big if there are a lot of background operations, I've also seen rapid growth in database size where ClickDimensions is installed and a tracking script is embedded in a high volume website.

    Regards,

    Sean

    Hello Bryan,

Contact MS Technical Support and get the Top 10 Storage Table Report. It will help you analyze if there is some job which is taking more storage than expected. Also you can get the report twice like one in Start of Business and One towards the end so that you can compare both the report and drill down exactly what is happening with storage.

Also you can follow this link to Free up storage Space: technet.microsoft.com/.../dn683569.aspx

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks.

    Hi Sean,

Thanks very much for letting me know. I did indeed request this list of tables and it looks like the AsyncOperationBase table is growing rapidly. It has grown over 1GB from yesterday to today, but I see no reason for it. I delete all completed system jobs daily, both manually and via bulk deletion jobs, so I'm at a loss.

I guess my question form here would be how do I see what's in that AsynOperationBase table and how do I prevent it from growing? I've looked at this article for help:

    support.microsoft.com/.../performance-is-slow-if-the-asyncoperationbase-table-becomes-too-large-in-microsoft-dynamics-crm

But if you have any other suggestions that would be most helpful.

I talked with Microsoft and they don't seem to be able to help much either. We do not have ClickDimensions installed, so that's not the issue.

    Thanks,

    Bryan

    Hi Varadarajan,

I've done the usual things to free space, such as deleting attachments, etc., and it's been fine since we've been using CRM (since 2014). It is only in the past week that this has become an issue.

    Hi Bryan,

The different AsyncOperationTypes are described in this article: community.dynamics.com/.../the-asyncoperationbase-table-58-what-are-all-those-records-anyway-63

A common reason for this table to increase in size is if there are a lot of workflows being triggered on the system.

    Sean

    Hi Sean,

As a follow up - I normally delete all completed workflows and as far as I can tell there aren't any outstanding - is there somewhere else I should be looking as I feel like I'm missing something here. Is there a way we can see the AsyncOperationBase table?
