I have a question about product dimension groups. Knowing that color, size and style can be displayed as product variants on the e-commerce channel, can configuration appear as well OOB?

It should be supported. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any items with the "Configuration" dimension enabled in any of the demo sites or FnO demo instances to run a quick test. There is no mention of this functionality being not supported as it is just similar to other variants. If you happen to test this, please post your results here.

Dimensions to display as image – Specify which dimensions should appear as swatches on e-commerce site pages such as product details pages (PDPs) and search result list pages. Any combination of color, size, and style dimensions can be shown as a swatch."
