CRM 2016 Global Search not working

We recently upgraded from CRM 2011 on-premise to CRM 2016 on-premise (with SP 1).  We are set up with ADFS / IFD.  A recently discovered issue is that the Global Search (next to the New Activity in the Navigation bar) doesn't work when using our internal CRM URL, but it works when we use the external.  When on the external URL, a global search usually returns results in 2-3 seconds.  When on the internal URL, the Loading animation just sits there and spins forever (I've left it there sitting for hours), but it doesn't appear to consume any resources on the server, and nothing I see in the Event Log.  Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried turning off TurboForms and see if you have the same problem with Legacy Rendering?  Just a thought.

We've been on Legacy forms from the start due to some other issues (customizations we have).  However, I don't see how that could be part of the problem anyway, as you're not using a form.....

One thing I'll add, don't know if it is related.  We have another add-on product called Experlogix, and they notified us during our upgrade testing that we would have some fun with ADFS.  We're using Server 2012R2, which means ADFS 3.0.  Because of the way ADFS is set up, you cannot use a standard domain (ie mycompany.domain.com) because of the way ADFS handles tokens, and it's an issue that all ISV's will have to deal with.  So, our external domain has to have an additional subdomain, so we use mycompany.crm.domain.com and the internal domain is internalcrm.domain.com  (plus ports).  We have found that many many on-premise customers switched to Server 2012 from 2012R2 so they could just avoid the issue altogether.

Were you able to find a resolution to this issue?

No, just a workaround, which is we went back to just using the external URL.

Thanks for the reply, I'm running into a similar issue in a CRM 2016 SP1 with IFD configured as well.

You might want to file a request with Microsoft.  We were going to do that, but other issues were going to prevent us from using our internal URL anyway, so didn't bother with support request.  If you find a solution, please post it here, would much appreciate it!

We had a similar issue when we added custom entities and renamed out of box entities to global search which had an '&' character in the display name of the entity. Removing this character from the display name fixed the problem.

    thank you Patnj!

    Hello!

We have the same problem after ADFS setup in CRM 2016 On Premise. And Global Search doesn't work with any URL.

How this problem can be solved?
