Upgrading CRM 2011 on premise to CRM 2016 on premise

I know that to upgrade from CRM 2011 to 2015 an upgrade to 2013 is required first. If deciding to upgrade from 2011 to 2016 on premise, would an upgrade to 2013 then 2015 then 2016 be required and can one go from 2013 to 2016?

Thanks

Rob - you are correct that you will need to upgrade to 2013 first before upgrading to 2015.

For 2011 to 2016: Here's a snippet from another post

"With 2011, all customizations and configurations are packaged up in a Solution.  This includes any custom web pages, JavaScript files, etc.  With versions prior to 2011, these files were manually deployed to the server which means that they would have to be converted to 2011 format prior to upgrading to 2015.  If you’re on 2011 or later, then that work has already been done for you.  If you’re on a pre-2011 version, then you’ll need to factor that time into your upgrade decision."

    Hi

Yes that is correct, have a look at this site for info.

    technet.microsoft.com/.../hh699765.aspx

"Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 is not supported for upgrade. However, you can migrate from Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2011 to Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2013 by using a trial product key, and then, either migrate or in-place upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2015. For instructions about how to migrate from Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2015, see Upgrade from Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server 2011"

so is it possible to create a solution in 2011 and add all the entities that need to be moved to CRM 2016 and install the solution in 2016 environment?
