Change relationship behavior for email attachments

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

I need to change relationship behavior between email and attachments so that attachments will not be deleted after I delete an email. At the moment I can't figure out how to do this because this option is locked. Is it possible?

Correct, there is no way to change that behavior for attachments.

Don't know why that link doesn't work, but if you go do AppSource and search for "eBECS AutoSave to SharePoint with Metadata" that is what I was pointing to.

You need to strip attachments and store them somewhere else if you don't want them deleted when an email is deleted.  It's a parental relationship, so you'd have orphaned attachments in your database with no way to access them if you managed to delete the email without deleting the attachment.

Example of a way to handle storing attachments off of emails (and shameless plug of eBECS IP): appsource.microsoft.com/.../ebecsltd.8f610108-8f4d-4a60-b732-a50dc973207b;tab=Overview
