Can anybody let me know if Microsoft have stopped the support for GP8, and if not when they plan too?

I see that you have already been pointed to the Life cycle support page.
For a support perspective, Microsoft will only provide support for a v8 site if it is required to get you upgraded to a supported version.
A bug that still exists in a supported version might be looked at for fixing in a future version, but not in an unsupported version.

GP 8 support ended quite awhile ago. Take a look at this page for the product lifecycle.
