"Waiting for cash drawer to close," but cash drawer is closed?

I'm using the "wait for cash drawer to close" feature because I believe it's potentially dangerous for employees to be able to make transactions while the cash drawer is still opened (since people can steal out of the drawer), but it often freezes up at "waiting for cash drawer to close" screen, even though the cash drawer is closed. Manually opening and closing afterwards doesn't work either. I'm lost as to what I should do, seeing as though it's difficult to restart Microsoft RMS after every transaction. Does anyone have a solution to this? Or rather, does anyone even know the problem for this? Is Microsoft RMS in general kind of incompatible with cash drawers or...? Please help! Thank you.

We need some questions answered.  This problem can come about with how the receipt printer is configured (windows or opos) and what driver software is installed.

    1) What printer do you have.  We need Brand, Make and Model.

    2) What cash drawer do you have?  We just need Brand if possible.

    3) Is the cash drawer connected to the printer or to the station?

3a) if connected to the station, what cable:  USB, DB9 Serial, DK (looks like a phone cable)

    4) Does your printer use OPOS drivers or Windows Drivers?

--- If the printer is installed under Control Panel -> Printers and Devices , then it is most likely a Windows Driver.

    5) Has this ever worked or is the wait for drawer setting just recently enabled.

Thank you for the reply. Here is the information you asked for:

    1) The printer I have is Epson TM T88IV.

    2) The cash drawer I have is APG 554 USB Cash Drawer.

3/3a) As stated above, the cash drawer is a USB cash drawer and is connected to the station.

    4) The printer uses Epson's OPOS driver. (Edit: I didn't install the driver myself so I thought it was Epson's OPOS driver, but after checking Control Panel -> Printers and Devices, it is there? Does this mean it's a Windows Driver instead?)

    5) I installed RMS for the first time a few days ago so I suppose this falls more under the latter.

    Thank you ahead of time.

Since the cash drawer is hooked up to the station then we don't have to worry about the driver for the receipt printer.

Is the APG opos drivers installed for the cash drawer?    Can be found here. www.cashdrawer.com/.../software-drivers

Also this might sound silly to ask but, Does the cash drawer open automatically when you tender out a sale?

I have seen in the past with older epson, SNBC, and Star printers that sometimes when a person closes a drawer the signal that is sent doesn't get picked up in the opos driver.  Normally newer hardware and opos drivers dont have that problem...  But it could simply be a driver issue that wont be resolved until a newer driver is installed or released by APG.

The APG OPOS driver is installed, yes. I uninstalled the one I had and went into the link you provided to download and install as well, just in case.

The cash drawer does open automatically when we tender out a sale.

If it really is a driver issue that wouldn't be resolved until a new driver is released by APG, then I suppose it would be the wiser choice to go ahead and purchase a newer hardware. Do you have any good recommendations?

Again, thank you for your reply.

APG makes good cash drawers.  I recommend you get one that hooks up to your epson printer via a DK cable.  Make sure you get a epson model drawer because other models wont work.   The cables are different.

Then you can use the epson opos drivers to control the drawer.  These work very well and I never have problems with the epson opos.

Is there a DK cable connector with a USB-B end? Or are DK cables and USB cables completely different and can't co-exist on one connector?

Hello again. So I ended up buying a new cash drawer and I have everything connected (the cash drawer to the printer), but the cash drawer doesn't open when we tender out a sale. Maybe I don't have it installed correctly? If so, do you happen to know how to install it correctly? I'm using Epson OPOS ADK (version 2.80E) with the Epson TM-T88IV printer and the new cash drawer I got is APG Vasario VB-320. The cable I'm using is CD-101A(24V). Thank you ahead of time.

You will need open the Epson Opos configuration utility.  Add a cash drawer and assign it to the same port as the printer.  You will need to give it a Opos name like "Drawer"

Then under SO Manager goto Database Menu -> Registers -> Register List.  Open teh properties for the register defination and clikc on the drawer 1 tab.  Enter the Opos name there.  Also make sure drawer is enabled.

Restart POS if it is open.

I have set the system to wait for the drawer to close and it does not show the message on the screen.
