Management Reporter Errors- Is there a way to show event viewer details to end user

I just completed an upgrade of Management Reporter 2012 for one of our clients yesterday and when running one of their reports they received the classic error "The report contains on or more errors that prevent it from being rendered". After looking in the event viewer I found this entry in regards to Management Reporter 2012:

Analysis Error: Report.Column.Header [C10/1] - ColumnSpan cannot exceed last column

This error message of course led us to the specific area of the report that needed to be fixed and we were able to get the report running again.

My question to the community is related to allowing the end user to see the detailed error message that appears on the MR servers event viewer. Is there anyway to do this other than logging into the server and looking at the event viewer? I was unsure if there were any ways that these errors could be show to users running their MR client locally.

Thanks in advance for any feedback you could provide.

    John,

I am receiving the error you reference above:  "Analysis Error: Report.Column.Header [C10/1] - ColumnSpan cannot exceed last column", although my error has [C13/0].  You indicated that this led you to the specific area of the report that needed to be fixed; however, when I open my column layout and look in Column 13, I do not see any issues with the column.  What turned out to be your issue?  Maybe your fix will work for me, too.

    Thanks,

    Tonya

    John,

Thank you for the feedback, you are correct in that some errors show in the report queue and some in the event viewer. The best option right now is to go to the Connect site and vote for this suggestion regarding improving report error logging.

    Thank you.

    Tonya,

Did you ever get this fixed? I'm currently experiencing the same issue and I don't see any issues with the column.

    Here's the error i get:

Analysis Error: Report.Column.Header [C22/0] - ColumnSpan cannot exceed last column

    Thanks,

    Rheiner

    Rheiner,

There was an issue with one of my Column headers.  I had a value "Year To Date" that was centered across multiple columns.  I had to move the column header to the starting column and enter the specific columns letters (from and to) to spread the header across.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks,

    Tonya

Thanks for the information. This helped me identify the problem.

    Have a great day!
