Connect CRM 2013 to pre-existing Sql tables?

Is it possible to map  CRM 2013 On-Prem  to  existing SQL tables?

For example, if sql had a table called X, could I create  CRM entity called X, and have the CRM UI making changes to the entity which are reflected back to the sql table ?

Thanks,Peter

Not directly - you'd need to write some code to handle this or use an ETL tool to move data from a corresponding CRM entity to the external DB.

    Hi Jason,

I don't want to replicate data.

I am looking at an iframe in a existing CRM entity form.

    Any gotcha's with that ?

    Thanks, Peter

    Hi Peter,

You can use IFrame to show your external app that will update your external database from CRM, but if you don't create the table X in CRM, you can only show or CRUD data from CRM through external application, not directly from CRM, update CRM DB then will auto update entity X, you cannot use certain features available in CRM, such as Goal Management or Marketing List Criteria that calculate or get data from table X. If you want to duplicate the data, you can use SSIS, the advantage is you have to maintain both sides, but advantage is you can use to manage your data in entity X (now becoming entity X in CRM DB) to be used in CRM features. It might be little bit different from SharePoint you can use External Data Source as the SP List.

    Thanks.
