Please take a look at the new Solution Checker feature that is in Preview globally for V9+, https://powerapps.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/make-higher-quality-apps-with-solution-checker/. We have some of the upgrade readiness rules and will be adding others, such as the unsupported DOM access rules in the near future.

There are changes to the XRM API.  I used the Custom Code Validation Tool as part of our upgrade to 2013.  Saved us tons of work and $$$   I have not seen one for 365 yet.  Below are some changes that will effect your upgrade.

    Hi Nick,

    Thank you for your post.

I used to use this solution for 2011 and 2013 . Are we able to use version  2015 for D365 online as well.?

Thanks for your response in advance.

The tool is meant for CRM 2011 to CRM 2013.  Not sure if will work for CRM 2016 but I would think that your code in CRM 2016 (v8) will still work for D365 Online.

Note that it won't fix the code but it will highlight what will need to be fixed.

I know this post is a bit old, but might be good info for others or who are looking for the tool.

    Cheers

    Nick

    Hi Sher Khan,

I think there are no differences between CRM 2016 and Dynamics 365 for the checking of unsupported customizations. So you could upgrade CRM 2016 to Dynamics 365 without any custom code validation tool.

RE: Dynamics 365 Update Custom Code Validation tool

There are features deprecated in versions before 2016 and if these are included then they are better upgraded as part of the move to Dynamics 365.

Quoting from Dynamics 365 MSDN article:

"As of February 2017, the SDK extensions for Microsoft Dynamics 365 is deprecated, and won’t be supported in future releases of Dynamics 365, version 9.0 and beyond. These extensions were added in Dynamics CRM 2013 to provide a simplified connection class, strong type generation for solutions, and web portal capabilities. These have been replaced with newer capabilities. You should instead use the XRM tooling assemblies to build your Windows application for Dynamics 365. More information:  .NET Development: Use XRM Tooling assemblies. For portal capabilities, see Administrator's Guide to portal capabilities for Microsoft Dynamics 365.

If you are looking for an earlier version of SDK extensions documentation, see SDK extensions for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2015. You can obtain the portal assemblies and tools supported for earlier versions of Dynamics CRM by downloading the SDK extensions NuGet package. These can be used with the December 2016 update for Microsoft Dynamics 365 (online and on-premises).

    Hi

I do not think there is anything deprecated between 2016 and 365. So, there is no Custom Code Validation tool available for this.

RE: Dynamics 365 Update Custom Code Validation tool

    Hi,

There isn't as such as magic tool that will loop through your code and tell you what is supported and what isn't. Upgrading from CRM 2016 to 365 should normally be a smooth process but this will depend on how heavily customised your current solution is. It also depends on what legacy code you have in your solution that is still using deprecated endpoints or JavaScript functions from older Dynamics CRM versions (4.0, 2011, etc).

For this reason, my recommendation is that you do a test upgrade into a sandbox environment and rigorously test all your functionality and code. This way you will be able to nail down exactly where any issues exist and how you can fix them in your code.

Hope this helps! Please click on "yes" if you found this response helpful!
