Copy on-prem Production to new Dev instance

Hi,

My company has CRM 2011 On-Prem. Over the years the 3 instances Dev, Uat, and Prod have become different due to emergency fixes and what not.  To complicate the issue, they each have two tenants, which are heavily customized with supported plugins and unsupported .dlls. We would like to copy the Prod instance to a new Dev instance. We want to keep them as bit perfect as possible. Is it possible to duplicate each vm image, app server and the db server, then change the Org from the Prod org to a new Dev org? After all is tested we will remove the old dev org servers and do the same for UAT.

    As you plan, you can create a new environment for the development and once satisfied with the installation, remove the old one.

    Always take backups.

    Once you've taken the copy then do check to see you can successfully export and reimport your solution(s).

    *  There are some errors which only come to light when you try to do these things - that are not apparent if you do a full on-premise copy.
