Hi There,

Greetings,

We are using IBM Curam which is now owned by Merative for Social Program Management (pension distribution for needy people). we want to replace Curam with Microsoft Technologies. Please advise if anyone has experience in this regard, which are all tools, time frame etc.

at high level Curam does the following

1.  Beneficiary registration/ Management
2. Building Family relationships
3.Application Process
4. Dynamic Case eligibility based on the rules
5.Evidence Management
6. Approval Cycles
7.Workflow/Task management
8. Financial processing
9.Payment Corrections
10.Integrations (replacement for IBM ACE)
11.Scheduling batches
12.Communications - Letters, SMS

Thanks in advance
Regards
Ravi Kishore

    Hi Ravi,

The Microsoft Dynamics 365 family of products do have several solutions that can support a lot of various processes. E.g. Dynamics 365 Finance or Business Central can be used for accounting. Dynamics 365 Finance has a Global address book feature where you can set up relationships between organizations and users, like family relationships. Dynamics 365 also has a case management framework.

Each application has options and support for integrations, batch processing, communication options and workflows.

I'm not familiar with all requirements for Social Program Management. Depending on the requirements, you might also need other applications or customizations.

I would suggest contacting a local Microsoft partner that can tell you more about the solutions and based on more process information can guide you what solutions might be the best fit.

    Hi Ravi,

To replace IBM Curam for Social Program Management with Microsoft technologies, an optimal approach is leveraging Microsoft’s comprehensive suite designed for nonprofit and social impact organizations. This includes Dynamics 365 for case and beneficiary management, Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate) for workflow automation and task management, and Azure cloud services for scalable data storage and integrations. Dynamics 365 provides powerful modules for beneficiary registration and management, family relationships, application processes, approval cycles, and financial processing. Azure’s cloud services support secure evidence management, payment corrections, batch scheduling, and communication features (letters, SMS) via Azure Communication Services. Integrations replacing IBM ACE can be built using Azure Logic Apps and API Management, providing extensive flexibility and scalability. Overall, Microsoft’s tools offer a modern, cloud-native ecosystem with AI and automation capabilities to enhance efficiency and impact.

Regarding timeline and implementation, a typical migration and deployment for a similar Social Program Management solution using Microsoft technologies may take 9 to 12 months, depending on project scope, complexity of business rules, integrations, and data migration efforts. The process involves discovery and architecture design, development/configuration of Dynamics 365 and Power Platform components, custom development for eligibility rules and workflows, plus thorough testing and training cycles. Leveraging Microsoft’s Tech for Social Impact program offers discounted licensing and support, which can accelerate adoption. Collaborating with a Microsoft partner experienced in public sector or social program implementations is recommended to ensure alignment with business goals and smooth transition from IBM Curam.
