How to close item ledger entries for deleted items

I have an Item that was deleted but there's an entry in the item ledger entries table for it which needs to be closed to do other functions. Does anyone have any idea on what can be done?

I don't think you should have been able to delete an Item if it has transactions associated with it. Did you delete this from within the system, or through some programmatic way? Also, wdym by an Item Ledger Entry that needs to be closed? Please clarify.
