    Hi Rosemary 👋

    Thanks for your question!

To view or edit what a role (like Sales Order Processor) comprises in Dynamics 365 Business Central, follow these steps:

    ✅ To view role permissions:

    1. Go to Search (🔍) and type "Permission Sets".
    2. Find the permission set associated with the role (e.g., Sales Order Processor).
    3. Open it to see the list of tables, pages, and actions the role can access.

✅ To edit or customize the role:

    1. You can copy the existing permission set and create a custom version.
    2. Modify the permissions by adding or removing access to specific objects.
    3. Assign the updated permission set to users via the User Groups or User Card.

💡 If you're using Security Filters or User Groups, make sure to review those as well for more granular control.

    Hope this helps!
✅ Please mark this reply as helpful if it answered your question.
    Best regards! 👋

In Business Central, roles like Sales Order Processor are managed through something called Profiles (Roles).
Note: This controls the user interface and experience, not the permissions.
    1. Go to Permission Sets.
    2. See which permission sets are assigned to users with that role.
    3. You can also check User Groups or User Personalizations to see how roles and permissions are linked.
Note: This answer is based on my understanding, with Microsoft Copilot helping me organize and polish the wording.

    Hi Rosemary,

Role is defined under the "Profile".

    • Go to Profiles (Roles) page.

    • Search for the role name (e.g., Sales Order Processor). You can:

    • View the Role Center Page ID (which controls layout).

    • Customize the user interface for that role (if you're an admin or using Designer mode).

Apart from that you can also explore the details below,

To see and edit what a role (like Sales Order Processor) comprises in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, you will need to look at Permission Sets and Role Centers.
    There’s often confusion between:
    • Role Centers – Define the user interface experience (what the user sees when they log in).
    • Permission Sets – Define the data access and actions a user can perform (e.g., read, modify, delete).
To view or edit what a role comprises in terms of permissions:
Option 1: Use the Permission Sets Page
    1. Search for "Permission Sets" using the Tell Me feature (Alt + Q).
    2. Find the permission set associated with the role (e.g., D365 SALES DOC, PROC. is the default for "Sales Order Processor").
    3. Select it and choose "Permissions" from the menu.
      • You will see the tables and actions (Read, Insert, Modify, Delete, Execute) the role can access.
    4. To edit, you can:
      • Copy the permission set.
      • Make changes to the copy.
      • Assign the modified set to the user or user group.
Option 2: Use the User Groups (If Roles Are Assigned via Groups)
    1. Go to "User Groups".
    2. Find a group like SALESORDERPROC.
    3. Select it and choose "Permission Sets" to see what permissions are granted through the group.
To view or change what the Role Center looks like (UI):
    1. Go to Profiles (Roles) page.
    2. Search for the role name (e.g., Sales Order Processor).
    3. You can:
      • View the Role Center Page ID (which controls layout).
      • Customize the user interface for that role (if you're an admin or using Designer mode).
Area How to Access What It Controls
Permission Sets Search "Permission Sets" What data/actions the role can access
User Groups Search "User Groups" Groupings of permission sets for users
Profiles (Roles) Search "Profiles (Roles)" The UI/experience the user sees

    Thank You!

    Hi Rosemary,

You can check or edit what a role like Sales Order Processor includes by opening Profiles (Roles) in Business Central. There you can:

    • See which pages, actions, and Role Center are assigned.
    • Use Personalization (per user) or Profile customization (system-wide) to adjust what users in that role can see/do.
    • For deeper changes, you may need to modify permissions sets or create a custom profile.
