Hello all,
We have a client where the first action on every production order is to Report as finished all the units. They need to assign the serial numbers from the very beginning of the manufacturing process.
Master planning is used, so every production order is automatically reserved against a sales order. As soon as the operator reports a unit as finished and assigns the serial number, that serial number becomes reserved for the sales order.
The issue appears when the client tries to create or process a quality order for one of these serial numbers. The system shows an error saying that the quality order cannot be processed because the item is already reserved.
We know that manually unreserving → performing the quality order → reserving again works, but this introduces manual work and risk of human error.
Question: What options or best practices do you recommend to handle this scenario without manual unreserve/reserve actions?
Thanks in advance.
Yes, I have to do it this way, because I can’t create a quality association earlier. Until I report as finished and the serial number is assigned, the item doesn’t exist in inventory.
To clarify:
That’s why the quality association cannot be triggered before the Report as finished step — the serial numbers simply don’t exist until that point. BR.
