Using CRM bulk data import via API - is it possible and if so, how?

Hi

I'm pretty well versed in the CRM web API / common data service / dataverse, however I haven't been able to figure out if you can do a bulk data import via the API in a similar manner to the UI based bulk data import. I.E. using the API to send CSV file content of thousands of records and associste it with a import data map.

Does anyone know if this is possible, and if it is give me a couple of pointers on how.
