Performance Impact on Large Business Central Databases and limitations

Hello everyone,

How much data can an on-premises Business Central instance support without impacting performance, and what are its limitations with respect to the database growth?
I’ve encountered databases larger than 500 GB. As the database continues to grow, will the performance of the system be affected?

I also did not find any document from MS stating the limitations.

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Yun Zhu,

Thank you for sharing the details.

From my understanding, based on the information you've provided, the database growth limits were not defined by Microsoft. Is that correct?

Also, can an on-premise Business Central environment handle similar requirements to BC Online (as discussed in BC Tech Days) with appropriate resourcing?

    Looking forward to your insights.

Yes, Microsoft does not limit the upper limit of the database. But as you know, BC is an ERP system for small and medium-sized enterprises, and the database design is not as good as FO or SAP.
If the database capacity exceeds a certain size, querying, opening certain pages, and posting may affect the speed, especially when there are customizations.
So Microsoft also provides the following document,
    Performance Overview

Hope this can give you some hints as well.
    Thanks.
