How to load BOMs into GP - other tthan manually entering?

Seeing Integration Manager does not integrate to BOMS, does anyone have any experience with using DTS to import these?

What should I be aware of?

Thanks

Ray

Re: How to import BOMS into GP?

Friends and colleagues, I have worked on this for quite sometime and was experiencing the same issues described by Bill, but this time I was able to import Inventory BOM's using Table Import and everything appears on the lookups, and even when I see the Indented Bill I see all levels there.

Let me know if i can be of any help

Leslie thanks for posting the import - confirmed what I have done - the only questsion I have for you is the value in ORD - did you use the 16000 plus 16000 for the second line and so on - I know it is not 16000 but you know the value - just checking as this is what I did in my record set.

No change to the results.  The table slam of 3200 works with no errors, but still not in the lookup.

All I did for my data was take an existing BOM information and created a new item with the same components.  All my fields are mapped.  Once difference was my dates were 0:00:0 (as per the original data) so I changed the dates to default in with a value, but the same results as before.

Bill, will work on the macro later today and send it to you.

    Thanks

WOW, so much for so little.  The manufacturing BOMs as well only have two tables and table import can be used.  One, and only one trick.  their is a field to indicate that the child is also a parent and can thus be expanded down.  This field must be set to 1 for subassemblies (childern that are manufactured).

Ray, that is exactly what happens for me.

However, I never tried importing them PENDING and processing - If that works, would you care to share the Macro - import and data manipulation I can handle, but I have not done a macro in years in GP - if simple just tell me and I will get it done.

PS - can you share a Macro - never tried - another one of those have to do -

Re: How to import BOMS into GP?

So here is what I found, Bill please confirm this happens to you as well.

I can import the BOMS with an active status.  In the BOM Maintenance, the newly imported BOM does not appear when using the lookup, but is there when using the VCR buttons.

If I change the status to Pending and then process, the BOM then becomes available using the lookup in BOM Maintenance.

Like Bill, I have a few thousand BOMS to import.

My thought was to import them all as a status of Pending.

Create a Macro that would go to every BOM, using the VCR button, and Activate the BOM.

Once activated the BOM is available in both BOM Maintenance and Assembly entry.

A quick query on all Pending BOM status (assuming these are not already being used) will show all BOMS that still need to be processed by the macro.

Extra steps I was not hoping to have, but they can be "automated".

Re: How to import BOMS into GP?

I guess that I still have a problem - when I go to use the table imported BOM documents in Assembly Entry there are only the ones that I manually created or have modified since import showing up.

I understood what Ray's comment about the VCR button was, tested in the BOM Maintenance window, but, now I need to pass this on to the actuall end using client and that is when the problem comes up.

I know and understand the look up issue, but, how to get them to do the same 4 steps to find an item - I dont think will fly when they have over 3200 items that could be assemblies and are often done multiple times per week.

What is it we are missing - there might be a simple flag or setting we have to flip somewhere.

Re: How to import BOMS into GP?

Ray when I did the import (table) I set the status to 1 - Active rather than pending - since I thought that if needed I would simply in SQL use the delete and get rid of them on mass if there was a problem.

Even when entered Active it does not change the Lookup.

My question is why is that they do not populate the Lookup?  I did the VCR button and that in fact brought into view the 3200 BOM's forced on the system.  Any idea how to get the Lookup to show?

Re: How to import BOMS into GP?

if the only thing I need to do is activate all the BOMS I am okay.  But if you did not have to activate the BOMS, I would be interested to find out what I am missing.

    Thanks

    Ray
