Apps are disappearing for some users

Something odd happened and we wanted to know if anyone else is seeing this:

We have a client in D365 CE (online)  that has over 300 users, and last Friday (3/5/21) we got a call from a user that they could not access the app they needed to do their job. Today (Monday 3/8/21) a few other users started complaining about the same issue, but most users are still running without a problem. The affected users is able to access one App in their production Dataverse: the OOTB "Sales" app.

  • We removed and re-added a security role to the app, thinking that this might 'fix' the relationship.
  • We removed and added the same security role to the user.
  • We had them clear the cache and try different browsers.
  • We configured an existing "test" user with the same security role, and the App is available and working correctly for that user.
  • No updated solutions have been imported to their system (according to the Solution History) before the time this issue was reported.
  • We double checked the App in question to insure it had all the right security roles.
  • We checked the user to insure they had the corresponding security roles.
  • We used the Diagnostic tool under the admin.powerplatform.microsoft.com > environment > settings > users (checks a users O365 license and security roles - thanks MS!)
  • There are no O365 Groups configured to restrict access to the production Dataverse.

Server version: 9.2.21021.00144

Client version: 1.4.2205-2102.1

We opened a ticket with Microsoft.

    Hi Nelson

seams like users have team member license assigned.

Users who have existing Team Member licenses purchased during or after October 2018 will be restricted to this set of designated apps; these users will no longer be able to access Customer Service Hub, Sales Hub, or custom apps.

During the early-access phase of the new Dynamics 365 Team Members license, users who have the new license will be able to use the designated Team Member apps in addition to all existing apps. However, after license enforcement is turned on with the 2020 release wave 1 build, apps that users aren't entitled to use—such as Customer Service Hub, Sales Hub, and custom apps—won't be accessible to them. We recommend that you test your Team Member scenarios and migrate any customizations to the designated apps as needed.

To facilitate a smooth transition, all customer organization instances that are created before April 1, 2020 have been granted an additional grace period until January 31, 2021.

I'm pretty sure that raising a support ticket was the right approch as Support will be able to assist you and provide you all the informaton related to this topic.

    thank you

Thanks Teresa. You are correct. We did not realize that custom apps were not permitted under the Team Member License.
