Hi,

Is there any module avaialble for Plant Maintenance in GP.  Basically, we are in construction company and we would like to calculate the machine hour rate for each plant/equipment.

Regards,

G.Srinivasan

Not sure if its relevant, but there is preventative maintenance functionality within the Field Service module whereby you can schedule regular maintenance work for each piece of equipment. Is this what you mean by Plant Maintenance?

How would you calculate the machine hour rate manually?

    Why are you calculating it?

    Best regards,

    Dear Mr.Ian Stewart

Thanks for your reply.  We are a construction company with lots of equipment.  We want to monitor how much expenses are incurred for each machine like diesel, petrol, repair, calibration, maintenance etc  and the same will be divided by total machine hour to arrive cost per hour.

we would like to arrive the Machine hour rate in GP.  Kindly advise through which module we will get these value.

    Regards,

    Srinivasan

Just off the top of my head, one solution would be to use the General Ledger.

You could set up Unit Accounts in the GL to track the machine hours....so set up a unit account called 'Machine 1'. Every week / month post a journal to this account for the number of hours that Machine Number 1 completed.

Also set up a GL Posting account for 'Machine 1 Costs'. Post any costs for Machine 1 to this account.

At any time you can extract a report (from FRx maybe?) that divides the monthly costs (from the GL Posting account) by the monthly machine hours (from the GL Unit Account).

This would also allow you to apportion costs based on Machine hours. So for example, if you have no way of knowing the actual Diesel usage of various machines...but you do know how much you spend on Diesel every month, you could use a variable allocation acccount in GL to allocate the Diesel costs across all of the Machine Cost accounts based on the values in the Machine Hours Unit accounts.

If your machines are intelligent (such as factory based machinery - maybe not so relevant to construction vehicles)- ie they collect machine usage data themselves, there is no reason why you can't develop an integration that posts Machine Hours data direct into the GL Unit Accounts.

What is the end state of what you want to do..is it to understand which machines are giving you the best return / worst return...or what?

As I said, just off the top of my head...make of it what you will.

    Best regards,
