How do I go about creating a date field in D365 that would show the current date?
Which Dynamics 365 app do you have in mind?
You're in Dynamics 365 General Forum, therefore there is no such context. A better idea would be asking in a forum about the particular product.
I was able to get this to work via Java script.

You can use calculated field to show current date:
--Create one calculated field
--Set action: Now()
--Test:
