Good morning, afternoon, or evening :) depending on your location!

The error "Unable to change domain logon name" when enabling a language in Dynamics 365 could be related to permissions or configuration issues. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve it:

    1. Verify Permissions:
      • Ensure that the system administrator account has the necessary permissions to make changes to the domain logon name. This includes access to Active Directory and CRM security groups.
    2. Check CRM Application Pool Account:
      • Verify that the CRM application pool account in IIS has the correct permissions. You can do this by:
        • Opening IIS Manager.
        • Navigating to the CRM application pool.
        • Right-clicking and selecting Advanced Settings.
        • Ensuring the identity is set to a valid account with sufficient permissions.
    3. Active Directory Security Groups:
      • Confirm that the CRM Active Directory security groups (e.g., PrivUserGroup) are correctly configured and that the account being used has the necessary access.
    4. Restart Services:
      • Restart the CRM services and IIS after making any changes to permissions or configurations.

    Hope this helps!

    Hello CU01041745-0,

The error message "Unable to Change Domain Logon Name" appearing even when you're using a system administrator account to enable languages in what appears to be a Microsoft product (likely Dynamics 365 or a related service) is quite unusual. System administrators typically have broad permissions.

Here's a breakdown of potential reasons why you might be encountering this and troubleshooting steps you can take:

    Possible Causes:

    1. Incorrect Context or Area: You might be in a section of the settings where changing the domain logon name is restricted, even for administrators. Language settings and user domain logon names are often managed in different areas. Double-check the exact section you are in.

    2. Hybrid Environment or Synchronization Issues: If your environment is a hybrid setup (e.g., on-premises Active Directory synchronized with Azure AD), the domain logon name might be managed by the on-premises directory and not editable directly in the cloud service interface.

    3. Specific User Configuration: There might be specific configurations on the user account you are currently logged in with (even if it's a system administrator) that are preventing this action. This is less likely but worth considering.

    4. Role or Privilege Limitations (Despite System Admin): While "System Administrator" usually grants extensive rights, there could be a very specific, granular permission related to domain logon name changes that is not included or is being overridden by another setting. This is rare in standard configurations.

    5. Bug or Temporary Issue: There's a possibility of a temporary bug within the platform you are using.

    6. Conflicting Policies or Customizations: Organizational policies or customizations within your system might be restricting the ability to change domain logon names.

    7. The Setting is Not for Language Enablement: The "Language Settings" window might be displaying this error for a different reason, and the inability to change the domain logon name is a separate, potentially unrelated issue being shown in the same context.

    8.

    Troubleshooting Steps:

    1. Verify the Exact Location: Carefully note the exact page or section within the settings where you are trying to enable the language and where this error appears. Is it directly related to the language selection process, or is it in a user management area you navigated to separately?

    2. Focus on Language Enablement: Try to proceed with selecting and applying the desired languages, ignoring the domain logon name error for now. It's possible the language enablement will still work independently.

    3. Check User Management Area: Navigate to the user management section of your system and try to view the details of your system administrator account. See if there are any unusual settings or restrictions indicated there.

    4. Review Role Assignments: Double-check the specific roles assigned to your system administrator account to ensure it has the expected broad permissions.

    5. Inspect "Show Technical Details": Click on the "Show technical details" link in the error message. This might provide more specific error codes, identifiers, or information that can help pinpoint the cause. Share these details if you seek further assistance.

    6. Download Log File: Download the log file provided in the error message. This file could contain valuable information about the error and the context in which it occurred. Review the log file or share relevant snippets.

    7. Try a Different System Administrator Account: If you have another system administrator account, try performing the language enablement using that account to see if the issue is specific to your primary admin account.

    8. Check Documentation: Consult the official documentation for the Microsoft product you are using (e.g., Dynamics 365 documentation for language settings and user management). Look for any specific notes or limitations regarding changing domain logon names, especially in relation to language settings.

    9. Search for Known Issues: Search online forums and Microsoft support articles for the exact error message "Unable to Change Domain Logon Name" in the context of enabling languages in your specific product. Other users might have encountered and resolved a similar issue.

    10. Contact Support: If none of the above steps help, your best course of action is to contact Microsoft Support for the specific product you are using. Provide them with the error message, the steps you took, and any technical details or log files you have. They will have the internal tools and knowledge to diagnose the issue more effectively.

    11.

In summary, while it's unexpected for a system administrator to face this error when enabling languages, the issue likely lies in the specific context of where you are seeing this message, potential hybrid environment configurations, a very specific permission limitation, a temporary bug, or a completely separate issue being displayed in the same window. Follow the troubleshooting steps above, especially reviewing technical details and logs, and don't hesitate to contact official support.
