HOW TO: Default Site & Warehouse by Delivery Address?

OBJECTIVEWe have multiple warehouses. We need to ship orders to customer delivery addresses from the closest warehouse.

QUESTION: Is there ANYWAY way to default warehouse by zip code OR by Delivery Address, without an extension or ISV?

NOTE: The solution has to work with our ecom site, and when there are restrictions (e.g., can't ship a given product to a given state, or a product is stopped for buying/selling from a given warehouse.

Thanks in advance!

If are an experience user of Power Automate user, you could capture customer creation event in Power Automate, and update default warehouse using your business requirements using Customer Data Entity.

Personally, I would prefer to create an extension. Is not complex task. Capture insert event and update field based on address.

    Thanks for the reply.

We have an extension to update the default warehouse on the header for each order, but I don't like it :)

I wouldn't have thought it that strange that many companies would have:

     1) more than one warehouse,

     2) customers operating in more than one state, and

     3) want to ship from the closest warehouse.

It seems like the default site / warehouse should exist at the delivery address level, OR THAT

Microsoft would provide another mechanism for achieving the same thing.

Even better would be a way to define basic fulfillment logic w/o having to implement a complex order management solution.

I have seen implementations where D365 with many warehouses, each warehouse having distinct rules for selecting it.

In the past I have made a customization at vendor address to default warehouse in PO’s based in main address. Is a similar requirement but it was in vendors.

There are multiples approaches for your requirements but unfortunately all of them are using customizations, some of them are simple others are complex.
