Dynamics CRM Certification

Hello All:

I'm currently planning to pursue Microsoft Dynamics CRM certification, however, before I become totally

amerce into the certification studies I would like to review the following challenges:

- study material availability (this would include but, not limited to) DVD videos or online training

- access to Microsoft Dynamics software (ie Virtual Lab) or  software purchase

- associated cost of the study material & certification exams

- certifications exams to pursue

Any other relevant info would also be appreciated, this may include the most in-demand Dynamics certification.

Appox time to complete certification?

Is there a better channel to pursue Dynamics certification, etc, etc.  Hopefully the above info will help to make a prudent decision.

Thanks

BK

Lots of questions, I will try to address them all.

The CRM 2016 certifications are listed below.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Deployment MB2-710
Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016 Installation MB2-711
Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016 Customization and Configuration MB2-712
Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016 Sales MB2-713
Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016 Customer Service MB2-714

You can find details at ...

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/learning/dynamics-certification.aspx

You will find lost of study material by looking at blogs and such like. I for example have written about the MB2-714 and I'm currently posting on MB2-713. (neilparkhurst.com)

If you work for a partner they should also have access to the Microsoft Learning portal. If you are new to CRM you may wish to consider a training course. Obviously plenty of these exist, at a price!

You can register for a 30 day free trial of CRM online. The online version is almost exactly the same as on-premise. It should be good for all certifications. (Maybe with the exception of the installation exam.) You can google for links to set-up a free trial. Try the one below.

The time to complete will depend on the amount of existing knowledge you have. Fir my first certifications I attended a boot camp training course with Firebrand. That took 9 days and included the exams. But you will probably want some time working with the product before diving into the exams.

Each exam costs around £118 each. They can be taken at local test centres or online. I tend to sue online option these days.

The order to do the exams will depend on what you want to get out of it. Many developers would do the MB2-712 exam first. But consultants / business analysts might want to think about MB2-714 and MB2-713 first. And infrastructure guys might look at MB2-711 first.

Hopefully I've given you a few pointers to get started. You will find loads of people in the community will help you with any specific questions you have.

The best way to learn is to spend time trying out CRM in your own sandbox, or even better working on actual solutions. I came in not knowing anything about CRM, but I was fortunate to be in a firm that was willing to give me time to learn/play around with CRM for a few weeks. Also, don't hesitate to ask questions (even the most trivial ones), it is the best way to learn!

I have 5 Microsoft Dynamics CRM certificates (mostly CRM 2013). I spent an average 2-4 weeks studying for each exam.

My resources: Microsoft PartnerSource Online (Great reading material and practice labs, from Microsoft), working in sandbox, and working with a consulting firm as an associate.

I know it is hard, but try to immerse yourself in a community that works with CRM, possibly with CRM consultants or even signing up for a CRM bootcamp (they often include practice questions/study tips).

Start with 2016 Customization and Configuration - this covers the core of CRM.

    Good luck.

The official training courseware for all Dynamics products can be found in the Dynamics Learning Portal. To access it, you need to work for a Microsoft partner that has purchased access to DLP (it costs US$1000 per year).

    Hi Neil

I know I'm joining this thread late, but I would like to ask about the the actual certification received on passing the exams.  I'm new to Microsoft exams and as far as I can understand from Microsoft's website, is that each CRM exam certifies you as a Specialist and unlike other Microsoft certification paths, if you pass three exams that does not certify you as a Microsoft Professional.

    Is this correct?

Hi Matt, when I done my first exam the 2015 MB2-706 online deployment I also became an MCP.

    Hope that helps.

Are Dynamics 365 exams available? Right now we are on 2016 but if the exam for 365 is similar I'd rather focus on those.
