Upgrading GP From 9.0 To 10.0/2010

I have finally started my upgrade to 2013.  First off, I upgraded to Sevice Pack 6, with not problems.  Where I did run into problems was after I installed 2010.

When I launched it, I received the error "Focus trigger WS_Trigger_Print_Purchase_Orders registration failed".  I clicked on the OK button and received "Focus trigger WS_POP_PO_Entry_Save_AFTER of form WSPOPDynamics registration failed.", then "WS_PO_Return", and etc.  After about 10-15 more windows, I get the message that the GP Utilities needs to be run.  I click Yes and log in to the Utilities.

After Validating the Product Version, I receive "There ws a problem ascertaining product version information.  Microsoft Dynamics FP Utilities will now exit.  Please check the duinstall.log file for more information.".  Problem is...I cannot find the duinstall.log file.

I thought I'd try to go back a version and upgrade 9.0 to 10.0, but ended up with the same results.

Any ideas?

    Hi Jeff,

The duinstall.log file should be located in the (..\GP2010\Data\) folder.

Got it, but it doesn't tell me anything.

Can you perform a clean install with a brand new company in 2010 without the conversion? Do you get the same error? What version of SQL server?

SQL 2005 x32.  I cannot get to the point of creating a new company.  When I launch GP, it automatically goes into GP Utilitites.  From there it goes to Validate Product Version Information and craps out.

If you are installing this on the same system that has GP 9, try loading GP 2010 app to a different computer / server that does not have any prior install of GP on it. See if it gives you the same issues.

Let me ask a stupid question....is it possible to take a backup of of pre-2010 install and restore it to a fresh install of 2010?  Will it do the upgrade that way?

I don't think so. If I remember correctly, there were enough significant changes to the table structure from GP 9 > GP 2010 to break if you tried. I would also recommend using SQL 2008 R2 at the very least if possible for you with GP 2010.

The biggest problem right now is getting GP 2010 on your system first, right? After that, you have some options to perform the upgrade.

Looks like I'm going to rebuild the vm, which is why I'm doing it in a test environment.  Since the current version (9.0 SP1) is running on Win 2003 x32 and SQL 2005 x32, should I go ahead and build it on the x64 Windows and SQL 2005 x64?

RE: Upgrading GP From 9.0 To 10.0/2010

It shouldn't matter if your virtual server is 32 or 64 bit or the install of GP for that matter. If you have 64-bit available to you, use that since you will get better use of your processors and less compatibility issues with programs like Management Reporter 2012 which does not come in a 32-bit variety (unless that has recently changed), and other supporting packages like MS Office.

The migration from GP 9 to 2010 can be done with only data transfers. This includes many of the setup routines in GP 2010. There are utilities out there to assist with data conversions if you have to go that route.

So, if that's the case, would it be smarter to go 9.0 to 10.0 then 2010?
