Dynamics 365: An attachment cannot be saved if it is blocked or if its file type is invalid.

Hi Guys,

We're running Dynamics 365 v8.2.2.112 on-prem with server-side synchronization and we're experiencing the below error erratically.

7444.CRM-Error.JPG

"The message was saved as a Microsoft Dynamics 365 email record, but not all the attachments could be saved with it. An attachment cannot be saved if it is blocked or if its file type is invalid."

We have 3 organizations running on one server. One organization is never affected. Two others experience this issue.  It's affecting random emails with different types of attachments (pdf, xlsx etc) with different sizes at different times.

Double checked the file extension block list and attachment size (we set 31,072 KB) and email server profiles which are set the same as the organization without issues.

We haven't found a solution online. Any advice will be highly appreciated.

    Hello,

Have you checked the blocked file extensions for the attachments ? community.dynamics.com/.../201248 - Do you see there any differences between working and not working CRM Organizations?

    Hope this helps,

    Radu

    Hi Radu

Thanks for your response. As mentioned in the original post, we've checked and double checked the blocked file extensions between the organizations. Also, it's happening randomly. Not all pdf or xlsx attachments are blocked. It's happening randomly. Yet the attachments are present on Outlook web.

Hi - sorry about this, I've misread your post.

By any chance are the blocked attachments OneDrive attachments ? I know there was a bug with this in the past.

Also, if you enable CRM Platform traces and leave them on at an Error level - do you see there any useful information? You can relate the CRM Platform traces with the attachment based on the date time - the email was received.

    Regards,

    Radu

    Hi Radu,

Let me try enable the traces. Not sure how it works, or how performance will be affected since we're running 4 different organizations in one server.

If you enable them at an error level - unless all of your CRM Organizations are constantly failing (in which case you have bigger problems than performance) it shouldn't have much of an impact.

    Hi,

We found the issue to be permissions Access Rights: Create Access for the entity Activities for the owner of the received email.
