IE9

So, jumping the gun, and against my better judgement (hindsight is 20/20 and I *knew* I might shoot myself in the foot yet did it anyway) I installed IE9 on my machine. Didn't work very well - IE blocked all the popup windows in CRM. So, I uninstalled it, yet I still have the same problem. I've tried disabling the popup blocker, adding the site to my trusted sites, enabling and disabling protected mode for all zones, etc Has anyone else tried it and had any luck either making it work in IE9 or uninstalling IE9 and getting to work in IE8 (again)? It worked fine in IE8 before. Thanks, Jeff

yeah did the same thing jumped the gun and installed IE9 but I did not have the pop problems you are seeing.    I simply cannot use the save or save and close!    I am about ready to go back to the previous restore point.   Can you do the same?

    Hi Jeff,

Have you tried doing a browser reset in IE 8 after uninstalling IE 9 ?

Same issues as Steve - no Save or Save/Close.  Additionally, I get an onload even error when opening a Sales Opportunity related to one of my customizations AND the typical 'MS Dynamics CRM has encountered an error.' - Send Error Report/Don't Send popup when closing most entity records: Accounts, Contacts, Sales Opps, etc.

Alex, No, I hadn't tried it but just did with no luck. Thanks for the suggestion - I'd forgotten you can do that. Jeff

Steve, I tried starting Windows with the last known good configuration - but I don't know if that's the same as going to a restore point or not. I will poke around - I've seen restore points somewhere before but never used them.

I can't say if I can save or save & close - I can't get a window to open. Actually, I take that back: it opens the window even though I get the JS alert about a blocked window, but the window never loads anything. But, with nothing in it, I can't even attempt to save.

I did try compatibility view with no luck.

I feel like an idiot - I know better than to have tried the install. But...must see...new browser...shiny...pretty...object. Of course, I forget: that's what a VM is for. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

    Hello-

In my case I do have the chacne to open the windows, but save won't work as well as loading any data into a linked field.  Using IE9 debu mode, it looks like the javascript engine does not like some of the object handling done in the CRM Code.  No matter what mode you use (IE7 Compatibility, IE8 Compatibility or IE9 Compatibility).

I wonder if it is a bug on Dynamics CRM javascript code, or is it a bug on the IE9 javascript engine.

Has anyone tested IE9 Beta on Dynamis CRM 2011 beta?

Update: I have things working again, somewhat. I remembered that IE is installed on Windows 7 with both a 32-bit version and a 64-bit version (if you're running 64-bit, which I am). When I installed IE9, I chose the 64-bit version.

Anyway, it crossed my mind that I was always launching the 32-bit version of IE (for compatibility reasons with some apps) from my shortcut on the taskbar. When I manually launched the 64-bit version, lo and behold, it opens my pop-ups just fine.

I have no idea what it could be, but it's probably a wrong version of a DLL somewhere. For now I'll just use the 64-bit version of IE.

Annnoying, but then again, I knew better than to install it on my daily use machine.

Good, that solves the pop-up issue.  But, for example, can you create a new quote, and lookup data in the fill-in fields such as customer?  I get a javascript error and the window freezes, then CRM sends an error report to MS.

On the other hand, can you install the ActiveX Control for printing under 64bits, I remember it didn't work when running IE8 in 64bit mode.

    Regards

    Ronald,

I only installed the 64-bit IE9 but uninstalled it as soon as I realized the popups were broken.  It by default reverted to IE8 and since then I haven't attempted to save anything in CRM in IE8, 64-bit.  I figured it should work fine.  I'll find out tomorrow when I'm in the office.

Quick follow up: IE9 also "broke" my SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Studio.  I kept getting the following error: "Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to interface type 'Microsoft.VisualStudio.OLE.Interop.IServiceProvider'."

I had this error a long time ago due to Source Gear Vault (a really old version) and it occurred to me the solution was related to an IE dll, so when I saw that SSMS was throwing that error, I heldp out hope of finding a fix, googled it and found this article:

     http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sqltools/thread/d5d3e5fc-d8ce-4f42-b7ea-9bbbb7756a20/

I tried the response posted by user "Mark Hickin" (regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ieproxy.dll") which did the trick.  Now, my 32-bit and 64-bit IE8 work as expected as well as SSMS.

All is well in my PC world again.

Well, except for my Start-->Search Programs and Files doesn't actually return any programs or shortcuts like it should, just files.  That was broken before, though. :)

Maybe this wil help someone else.

    Jeff
