Multiple Vendor Item Codes

We are looking for a solution to using multiple vendor item codes associated with one Dynamics item code.  The optimal solution for us would be some sort of parent/child relationship between items.  Does anyone know of a solution within Dynamics, or a third party software solution.

Do you mean multiple codes for one item from one Vendor?  If so, in what scenario would that happen?  If not, then you assign a Vendor Item for each Vendor associated with your item.

It could be from one vendor when they change pack sizes, they change their vendor code.  We will just set up a different unit of measure.  We are importing our invoices through an integration, and the vendor code must match.  We also need to keep only one item number in order to do our usage reports, and not have to combine multiple items to see how much product we used in a store.

According to our consultant, there can only be one vendor code per item.  I was hoping for some type of thrid party software that exists to help us with this.

You are treating two SKUs from the same vendor as one inventory number/code in GP, thus two things may occur:

    • PO Issuance and PO Receiving and using your own item code, this is default and GP can handle it.
    • PO Issuance and PO Receiving and for one vendor with different item code for every packaging, in your integration tool, keep a translation table between different SKUs (for the same vendor) and your own item code (assuming you are treating each SKUs with matching unit of measure within the same item number in GP).

    Cheers,

    Dencio

You could always do a customization, which is sort of what Denzio is suggesting with the translation table.
