Barcodes for weight items

Hello,

I am trying to set up the system so that during inbound/outbound process, when the worker scans the product with the barcode (EAN13), they will be given the weight of the product (quantity) embedded in the barcode. I setup "Bar code masks setup", "Bar code setup" and "Bar code" in the product. But when I try to scan the actual barcode with the quantity ended figures the system rejects it. But if I scan generated bar code with zeros as my configured bar code the system accepts it. The product units for sales/purchase/ inventory is kg(weight).

I have tried to find the solution on the internet but all what I found was exactly what I implemented. I would be appreciate if someone could suggest me what I did wrong.2021_2D00_04_2D00_10-10_5F00_55_5F00_24_2D00_Window.png2021_2D00_04_2D00_10-11_5F00_31_5F00_20_2D00_Window.png2021_2D00_04_2D00_10-11_5F00_32_5F00_58_2D00_Window.png

    Hi Dimitriy,

Can you tell exactly what steps you perform when you talk about 'scanning'? Which solution are you using? What error do you get when 'the system rejects it'?

Note that the EAN13 barcode is a coding system for one complete item. Out of the box, the barcode is 13 characters for the whole item. The GS-128 standard can be used to combine information in a single barcode: en.wikipedia.org/.../GS1-128

    Hi Andre,

It was simple test. I created a product which we handle in kilograms and this product has the bar code EAN13. I created a purchase order with  this item and tried to receive the item on stock by the standard Warehouse mobile app. As EAN13 has 2 digit prefix + product + quantity + check digit (this what my item has) I generated the bar code with the weight digits in the quantity part and tried to scan it by the mobile app. The system showed that the "Product identifier not found" but when I generated the bar code with  zeros in quantity part instead of weight quantity it can be scanned.

For the product I created a bar code with 2 digit prefix + product + 00000 + check digit and assigned the barcode setup where the mask is as on the screenshot above.

    Hi Dimitriy,

This is indeed only working if you scan a barcode with the exact same number as setup on the item, so in this case with the zeros. EAN-13 is handling a single SKU only; not the quantities. en.wikipedia.org/.../International_Article_Number

For a quantity support, you will need GS-128. There is an existing idea where you can vote on: experience.dynamics.com/.../

    Hi Andre,

    Thanks for your quick responses.

But the items which I have to receive have EAN-13 bar codes not GS-128 and it is normal quantity/price embedded type of barcodes for POS. I have found few posts about almost the same issue

    community.dynamics.com/.../321237

    community.dynamics.com/.../problems-creating-weighed-items-using-ean13-bar-codes

but unfortunately it doesn't help me.

    Hi Dimitrriy,

The posts you found are related to retail POS. This is indeed supporting a price or quantity. You are using the warehouse management features where it only is using the barcoding to find the item/SKU.

    Hi Andre,

Many thanks for your information. Now I see it. During the inbound process wrh staff can use GS1-128 because it is on boxes.

But maybe you have suggestion what to do during the outbound process. We have many items which we purchase and sell in kg even if they are separate units with roughly the same weight, so we can't use Catch Weight. How a picker can recognize the exact item by scanning it if each item has EAN-13 barcode and they are almost all different due to different weight of items.

    Kind regards,

    Dimitriy

    Hi Dimitriy,

I think your scenario requires a customization.
