Is there way to construct BOM using excel ?

Hello,

we really have large BOMs and we find dynamics UI not very user friendly. for eg. we cannot add multiple products at once !. secondly, our products have bunch of variants and I really have to add them one by one (gosh) .

is there a better way to manage the BOMs? like in excel? most of the mid sized product management systems have this feature. does Dynamics have this ?

is there others also facing similar problems ?

I have the same question (0)

    Hy Saravanan,

of course this is possible to prepare BOMs and as well ROUTES in Excel.

    1) You can use "BOM Header and Version V3" and "BOM Lines V3" entity to do this.

I would first export these both entities so you have a template.

Take these tables and input your data in the sheets. After that you can import these using Data Management Workspace.

Take care to only use Items that are present in the system, otherwise the import will fail.

    2) Otherwise you could also create a custom Excel template for BOM Lines V3 (use: Workbook Designer) containing only these columns which are of interest for you.

    1) Just search the entity

    2) select the entity

    3) add needed columns

    4) Select "create Workbook"

    3) Furthermore you can use "Open in Excel" at the "BOM Designer" form. There is the "BOM Lines V3" entity available. But there is no filter and all bomlines rows will be exported. So use the Excel AddIn Filter to reduce to these BOM you want to edit.

hello Andreas, thanks. I did use the template, the item and variant lookup was not popping up it looked as a text field. technical said we have to customize something to make it work , and I just left it. this should have been there is what my understand is. do you have the same problem ?

    Hy,

yes I saw now that item number and product dimension in the Entity are not linked and so there are no lookup values offered.

    This could be customized.

Or you use the all released products variants entity, arrange the columns as you need this in the Bom line entity (same columns order). Then select/filter your item variants you need for the bom, copy from released product variants and paste them into the bom lines excel table. This would be handmade without customization.
