Import Data into Product Entity from external source

I have a need to import/overwrite Data into the Product entity.  I am hoping I can do this from an asp.net application hosted on our servers to CRM 2011 Online.

I am working on a costing program that is hosted on our internal web server and I need away to push the updated product information from my ASP.NET app to CRM Online.  This would need to be done, say when a end user pushes the "submit" button in my application.  I can put the data in any format needed (IE csv or XML), but I can't seem to find the information to help me get started on this project.

I guess I am asking (A). is this possible and (B) if it is can someone please point me to an article or examples?

Even if I have to create the XML with my app and store the information for another program or script to upload once every hour, this would be fine.  It would just be to difficult for me to have to upload the new Product.XML everytime a change is made manually via the import wizard.

    Hi,

You can perform an insert to Product Entity using ASP.NET Web/Web Service using CRM 2011 SDK. You can always create a XMLs and tell your Web/Windows services to pick records and insert into CRM Online.

Also you can use Import Methods with CSV/XML. These are described here msdn.microsoft.com/.../gg334535.aspx

Note: The update activity alone using import entity is not recommended.

Alternately, you can try using SSIS Integration with custom database if you choose not to do any action from ASP.NET page. Refer this blogs.msdn.com/.../ssis-2008-integration-with-crm-2011-on-premise.aspx

Since you are using CRM Online, your other option is to use a product like Scribe - scribesoft.com,  where you can set up the above process to run...say every 1 hour.  A proposed solution would be where you submit an XML file with the new/changed information from your application to an ftp site or a staging table, the scribe integration picks it up (based on modified date) and runs a package where it performs appropriate insert/update actions. If any errors etc, you get an alert email.
