Searching a Dynamics 365 DES database form the D365 Portal

We currently have a custom search page on our portal which combines liquid and FetchXml to retrieve information about training courses. The FetchXml is linked over several entities and as the data grows, the performance of the search has detreated or simply times out. I was just wonder what other options I have. We have a D365 DES database on AZURE and I was wondering if we could tap into this resource since using SQL and by passing CRM seem like a faster and more configurable option.

Your advice would be welcome G

Hi gman76,

Direct online DB access wont be possible, however you can explore two options:

1. Create a custom webAPI/service hosted on Azure which will get data using CRM web services. That data can then be consumed in a custom page or web resource.

2. Another options is to enable SQL mirroring using Data Export Services. This will enable you to replicate CRM Online database onto a Azure hosted SQL Server. Now you will have full control over your data and direct SQL queries will be possible.
