Through the general posting setup those two codes define where you sales and purchase transactions will be posted in your G/L.

The difference between them is basically that Gen Business Posting Group is defined either on the customer or the vendor but the Gen Product Posting Group is defined on the item.

They can also be defined on the G/L Accounts
